Geelong is passionate about leading our community and businesses to embrace opportunities and change through emerging technologies, such as the National Broadband Network, or NBN.

Through Information Communication Technologies, a closer integration of the global economy and everyday interactions increasing well-being is acheived. The economy is increasingly becoming the 'internet economy'.

The capacity of economies and societies to seize opportunities and meet challenges in a wide range of areas - the environment, education, health and the delivery of commercial and government services already involves the use of ICT’s via internet provider based networks. Our goal is to promote the digital economy to improve economic performance, social well-being and the quality of life of communities.

Realising the Vision

Leadership

Leadership The City is continuing to foster a community wide understanding of the value of high speed broadband and mobile communications. In addition we are coordinating stakeholders in the community to embed ICT in their strategies.


Infrastructure

Infrastructure We will continue to exploit opportunities for the construction of fibre infrastructure and support the development & construction industry to pursue a proactive approach to fibre infrastructure.


NBN

NBN

Creating & maintaining an environment conducive to the roll out of NBN in Geelong has and will continue to be a focus for council. We will continue to encourage business and community to embrace the opportunities of high speed broadband.



Skills

skills Geelong hosts a wide range of ICT skills capability which we are further building upon. Our focus now is to also collaborate with existing education providers to ensure skill availability for the roll out of the NBN.
