MAV Citizen to Councillor Candidate Information Sessions

The Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) is providing a Citizen to Councillor program including information sessions for prospective candidates.

The information sessions will be held in various locations around the municipality.  These two-hour sessions include:

  • Introduction to local government, the LG Act, role clarity, conflict of interest
  • What’s expected as a councillor
  • Overview of City of Greater Geelong  
  • An experience of a councillor (video presentation)
  • How do I become a councillor – with material from VEC, including eligibility to stand, wards, nominating as a candidate, campaigning legalities, voting system
  • Questions and Answer session. 

The MAV sessions will be held:

8 August 2017:
Springdale Neighbourhood Centre 
15 August 2017:
Grovedale Community Hub
23 August 2017 (two session times):
City Hall
Later session will be tailored to CALD candidates, however, everyone is welcome
30 August 2017: Wathaurong Co-operative
This session will be tailored to Aboriginal candidates, however, everyone welcome
5 September 2017:
