The City of Greater Geelong will be performing tree management works in Johnstone Park on Wednesday, 1 March.
Work would be done to clean up the pines prior to Anzac Day and to reduce the canopy on the large Sydney Blue Gum in the main lawn area.
Will Tieppo - General Manager City Services
The City had been working to address the structural issues with the blue gum for a number of years.
We have been using cables to try and extend its life while the new trees on either side have developed.
Unfortunately the cables are no longer working and we need to reduce the canopy considerably. However, this should safely allow the tree to be retained for another five years.
