Geelong played its part in Clean Up Australia Day with volunteers picking up rubbish at 13 sites across the region on Sunday 5 March 2017.
Volunteers took part in the clean up at parks, reserves, beaches and waterways around Geelong and the Bellarine. Drink bottles, takeaway containers, cigarette butts and plastic bags were among the most common items collected.
The City is a long-time supporter of Clean Up Australia Day; we provided 16 skip bins for the tonnes of rubbish collected on the day.
Every year, the event brings thousands of people together, raises environmental issues and reminds us all to do the right thing.
Over the last 26 years, volunteers have donated more than 31 million hours, through Clean Up Australia activities, removing the equivalent of more than 331 thousand ute loads of rubbish from nearly 166,000 locations across our country.
