Damage to artwork in Cressy Place

Wednesday, 19 April 2017

The following response was issued to a media query regarding damage to public artwork at Cressy Place.  The response was attributed to City of Greater Geelong Director Investment and Attraction Brett Luxford.

Unfortunately due to criminal elements in the community, the artwork was removed as it has attracted constant vandalism with the cost of repairs becoming prohibitive.

This is saddening for Geelong, as the community deserves public art of all kinds.  This type of illegal, unsocial behaviour is denying the community the opportunity to enjoy a variety of works in different spaces.

The purpose of presenting public art in this area was to increase use of some of the laneway linkages within the city and make it more inviting.
