Road safety initiatives in Corio-Norlane area

Wednesday, 6 September 2017

We issued this response to the Geelong Advertiser’s query regarding Road safety initiatives in Corio-Norlane area:

Peter Godfrey - Acting Director City Services

Road safety case–by-case reviews have occurred for roads in Corio and Norlane and will continue to occur as issues are brought to our attention.

The City has identified a number of roads for Local Area Traffic treatments and these projects have been added to our works program.

A review has been completed for Purnell Road and we applied unsuccessfully to VicRoads to get the whole of Purnell Road reduced to 50 kilometres per hour.

However, in June we reapplied to VicRoads for a 40 kilometre per hour zone on Purnell Road between Princess and Bacchus Marsh Roads and believe it will be successful.  Once the application is approved the City’s depot team will make the changes on-site.

Our staff have kept the students updated on the process and the steps to be taken.

We will also be reapplying later this year for a joint CoGG/VicRoads bid for a pedestrian safety program in the Corio-Norlane area.
