Portarlington Road traffic management

Saturday, 16 September 2017

We issued this response to the Geelong Advertiser’s query regarding the traffic management needs of Portarlington Road.

Peter Godfrey - Acting Director City Services

The Portarlington Road carries a high level of traffic and this is expected to increase significantly with the new developments along the Bellarine.

The intersection of Portarlington Road and Jetty Road is particularly congested during peak periods and planning and public consultation for this intersection has been ongoing for the past 10 years.

Traffic signals allow the management of a greater number of vehicles and will also provide safe pedestrian crossing.

This treatment of the intersection was part of planning strategy for the Jetty Road growth area and has been confirmed with several planning strategies and independent panel hearings.

The Drysdale by-pass is a separate project which has taken this intersection into account.
