Community invited to comment on central Geelong Laneways Action Plan

Revitalising Central Geelong’s Draft Laneways Action Plan is available for public comment until 19 November.

The report details plans to improve pedestrian connection for central Geelong’s main retail, dining and medical precincts and provide better access to the waterfront.

The report is one of the initiatives of the Revitalising Central Geelong Action Plan which seeks to improve the existing laneways and construct new laneways in central Geelong.

One of the key aims of the laneways plan is to ensure the lanes in central Geelong follow the principals for successful laneways.

These principals include that laneways should be as straight as possible, well lit and safe; prioritise pedestrian use; have active frontages with many doors and windows facing into the lane; open to the sky; and incorporate public art.

The plan includes concepts for eight new laneways or linkages, including Dennys Place to Malop Street, and Ryrie Street to Market Street.

Quotes attributable to Director Investment and Attraction Brett Luxford:

As the Revitalising Central Geelong Partnership Team delivers on its 10 year Revitalising Central Geelong Action Plan, there will be more people working and living in central Geelong.

Improving our system of laneways will ensure people can get around and will create a network of activity and urban buzz in central Geelong.
