Praise for all City of Greater Geelong staff

Tuesday, 14 November 2017

I have been moved to again write a 'Letter to the Editor' to the Geelong Advertiser (for the second time in as many weeks) regarding the unfair, misinformed and inaccurate comments expressed by one of that paper's opinion writers about the City of Greater Geelong and its people.

The City has been misrepresented, and our hard-working staff have been unfairly portrayed.

The weekend’s commentary tried to negatively influence the City's relationship with its new council, and the opinions expressed do not reflect our organisational purpose and focus.

I regularly receive positive feedback about the great work we do for our community.

And along with hundreds of staff, I am proud of the progress and changes the City has made and the successes we have achieved over the past 18 months in building a better place to work.

We hold true to our organisational purpose of ‘Working together for a thriving community’, and our values to:
·         Respect and encourage each other
·         Create a healthy and safe environment for all
·         Embrace new ideas and better ways to work
·         Make people the centre of our business.

Our new councillors are aware they are entering a highly regulated environment, with rules and expectations established by Victorian law.

I remain extremely positive that we have embarked on a new era, and I am proud of the work that hundreds of City staff undertake right across our organisation to deliver a diverse range of 126 services to the community.

I have every confidence in our staff, the calibre of our councillors-elect, and the processes and resources we have put in place to support and help our new council to undertake its duties and be successful.
