The West End Action Plan Draft has been developed to guide projects and works within the Malop, Gheringhap, Ryrie and Moorabool Streets block in central Geelong.

The masterplan relates to land bound by Malop, Gheringhap, Ryrie and Moorabool streets. This area is emerging as a focus for boutique shopping and alfresco dining in central Geelong.

Key stakeholders, including land owners and business operators from within the precinct, were invited to participate in a series of workshops that informed the plan.

Stakeholders identified the following key opportunities in the precinct:

  • improve the look and feel of laneways
  • encourage more housing
  • protect and celebrate significant heritage buildings and investigate a restoration program
  • encourage green roofs and walls in new developments and incorporate green urban landscape where possible
  • develop an urban art theme that can potentially be integrated with a signage system across the CBD
  • investigate innovative waste management systems.
