Streetface NAIDOC

Scattered around Geelong streets, is Street Face NAIDOC, a public arts project.

40 pictures have been chosen to be featured on 18 buildings around Geelong, as part of celebrations for NAIDOC Week (8-15 July 2018).

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate and recognise the history, culture, contribution and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait people.

In 2018 we celebrate the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made – and continue to make - to our communities, our families, our rich history and to our nation.

Under the theme - Because of her, we can! – young Aboriginal people are shining a light on the Aboriginal women who make a difference in their lives, through these Street Faces. Young people nominated and interviewed the peers and elders you see in these photos.

The Youth Development, Healthy Communities and Corporate Communication and Marketing Units at the City of Greater Geelong worked with young Aboriginal leaders from the Koorie Youth Group supported by Strong Brother Strong Sister to identify, photograph and interview those women in their lives that ‘Because of her, we can!' Young photographer, Joshua Maxwell de Hoog photographed this project.
