Leisurelink Pool Configuration Update

From Monday 4 May to Wednesday 30 September 2020, our main pool will remain in a 2x 25 metre configuration on a daily basis.

Lap swimming in the 50 metre pool will still be available between the following times:

  • Monday and Wednesday 7:30pm and 8:45am

This change is consistent with our operations in 2019 and is not a permanent year-round change.

Why the change?

Our pools are in high demand by multiple users and careful consideration is taken before making any decision within Leisure Facilities that can affect a member’s experience.

Following recent negotiations with the Geelong Swimming Club, we have undertaken a review of the capacity of the main pool with a view of balancing multiple pool users’ needs.

How does it help cater for demand?

Having 16x 25 metre lanes to program (instead of 8 x 50 metre lanes) provides greater flexibility for Leisurelink.

It will ensure we maximise participation by providing seven lanes for lap swimming of varying grades, allowing people to self-select slow, medium and fast lanes. It also supports junior swimmers by providing greater access for swimming club use and still maintain the popular walking lane.

Why does a swimming club get 8 lanes?

All of these users (including club swimmers) are either members, visit card holders or pay casual pool entry upon each visit. Clubs also pay additional lane hire fees to secure these lanes.

When can I swim in a 50 metre pool?

Lap swimming in the 50 metre pool will still be available Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:30pm to 8:45pm between Monday 4 May and Wednesday 30 September 2020.

From Thursday 1 October, the 50 metre pool will be available Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 6:00am to 8:00am.
