Administrator Chair's response to Commonwealth Games proposal

A statement from the City’s Administrator Chair Dr Kathy Alexander regarding a proposed regional Commonwealth Games bid:

"The City supports any initiative to highlight the many benefits of regional Victoria – including our support for sport and our range of first-class sporting facilities.
The City has not been involved in any discussions about a proposal to co-host a regional 2030 Commonwealth Games bid – but is happy to be involved.
If the bid was successful, Geelong would make an ideal centre for hosting world-class competitions, as our region already boasts many excellent venues to cater for a range of sports.
We also have excellent facilities and attractions for the thousands of competitors, visitors and world media who would attend such an event.
The recent Cadel Evans’ Great Ocean Road Race highlights the economic benefits and tourism value of hosting global sporting events."
