Maintenance of Barry Lane

Tuesday, 12 September 2017

We issued this response to the Geelong Advertiser’s query regarding the maintenance of Barry Lane, Wallington.

Peter Godfrey - Acting Director City Services

This road is an unformed dirt road and its purpose is for use as a fire access track.  Under the City’s road management plan it receives minimal  maintenance.

The road is not designed for the current high volumes it is experiencing.

This matter has been an issue for some time.  All abutting owners have been advised that their main point of access is Ling’s Road, a sealed and gravel road, which is maintained to a higher standard.  The owners have been advised that their clients should be using access points on Ling’s Road.

Signage has been installed along Wallington Road advising the same.

Unfortunately abutting owners have been undertaking unauthorised private works on the road, causing dust issues in summer and impacting on the roadside native vegetation.

This is not a desirable situation, both from environmental and safety perspectives.
