Kardinia Pool’s 50th birthday splash

Thursday, 7 December 2017

Come along and help Geelong’s iconic Kardinia Aquatic Centre celebrate turning 50 this year!

To mark this special occasion, a huge pool party is being held this Saturday 9 December 2017 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.

The afternoon will include free pool entry (between 12:00pm and 3:00pm), waterslides, face painting, balloon sculpting, aquatic inflatable, music with DJ Ali, games, spot prizes and a raffle.

Kardinia continues to prove popular with people of all ages and last season (1 October 2016 until 30 April 2017) the centre had more than 114,000 visits, as well as 60 swimming and exercise groups using the pools each week.

It’s also been the training ground for elite swimmers, including Olympic Games bronze medallist Peter Doak, who was the first person to swim in the centre when it opened 50 years ago.

In recent years, Kardinia has also played host to state and national competitions, including the national water polo championships and the Victoria country swimming championships as well as countless school carnivals and competitions.

Its facilities include two 50-metre pools, diving tower, toddler and learner pools and 75-metre waterslide.

Councillor Bruce Harwood - Mayor

Kardinia Pool is one of our best loved aquatic centres, providing health and fitness benefits for the community. It’s great to see parents who swam there as kids, now able to bring their children to experience the outdoor swimming pools.

Kardinia Pool also plays an important role in local, state and national sporting events, providing a state-of-the-art facility for competitors.
