Transport plan for Central Geelong

Monday, 8 January 2018

We issued the following statement in response to a series of questions from the Geelong Advertiser about the Moorabool Street bus stop.

Tim Ellis - Acting Director Investment and Attraction:

Work is underway to provide the optimum mix of transport arrangements in central Geelong.

Transport for Victoria is currently undertaking a review of a draft transport plan prepared by the Revitalising Central Geelong Partnership. The plan identifies the role streets play in providing movement and creating public places and the plan outlines which streets are priority for pedestrians, cyclists, buses and other vehicles.

There are no current plans to relocate bus stops in Moorabool Street however the review will look at longer term operational changes to ensure optimal outcomes for public transport users and integration with land use changes resulting out of the revitalisation of Central Geelong.

Among the options to be considered include looking at the number of bus routes using Moorabool Street and how best to align bus routes with the train stations.

Buses play a vital role in Central Geelong, bringing in commuters and shoppers. This drastically reducing the demand for parking.
