Mayor Harwood met Anthony Albanese to discuss funding for Geelong.
Federal funding for Greater Geelong
Wednesday, 8 August 2018
Mayor Bruce Harwood has met with Shadow Minister for Cities and Regional
Development, Anthony Albanese, to hear about their commitment to funding a city
partnership in the region.
The City of Greater Geelong welcomes this commitment and is
pleased that both sides of federal government can see the benefits of investing
in the Greater Geelong region.
We will continue to advocate for funding for a Convention
Centre so we can tap into the business traveller market and support the
inevitable increase of visitors to Geelong as Avalon Airport opens up to
Revitalisation of our city centre is another priority for
Council as we work towards increasing the number of people living and working
in our CBD.
There are many opportunities to fund projects that support
our growing tourism market and smart city initiatives that increase our liveability.
Council has already committed $20.6 million to the Northern
Arc Health and Wellbeing Hub and we now need similar contributions from state
and federal government to provide a world-class preventative health precinct in
the northern suburbs.
Geelong is a UNESCO City of Design and we have a strong
community-vision to become internationally recognised as a clever and creative
city-region that is forward looking, enterprising and adaptive and cares for
its people and environment.
We welcome funding from all levels of government to support
projects that will deliver on this vision and enhance Greater Geelong’s
reputation as one of the world’s great regional cities.
