Have owners provided a date for demolition?
The owners corporation administrator has not confirmed a date.
Have council officers been able to reach owners?
The City has made contact with the owners corporation administrator, who is handling the affairs on behalf of the owners.
Will council pursue legal action against the owners?
The City’s current focus remains on ensuring the health and safety of the public.
Is council paying for the works being carried out on the building?
There are currently no works being carried out on the building. The City will endeavour to work with the owners corporation administrator to determine the demolition plans for the building.
Is council concerned about safety around the area?
Stabilisation works on the Belchers corner building are now complete.
What fines do the owners face for failing to meet the demolition order?
The building is being monitored daily and will continue to be reassessed by an independent civil engineer. Public safety remains the City’s number one priority.
Under section 118 of the Building Act 1993, a court can order an individual to pay a maximum penalty of 500 penalty units or 2,500 penalty units in the case of a body corporate, where there has been a failure to comply with an emergency order.
