The following comments can be attributed to Director Economy, Investment and Attraction Brett Luxford:

Could you please confirm the charges for the trial?

Food and Drink Business - $250 per month ($3,000 for 12 months)
Take Away Food Business - $200 per month ($2,400 for 12 months)
Office $100 per month - ($1,200 for 12 months)
Shop (Non-Food or Drink) - $150 per month ($1,800 for 12 months)

We are aiming to recover 60 per cent ($114,000) of the estimated expenditure of the trial, with the aim of building market confidence and encouraging the private sector to deliver the services after the trial ends.
The trial will alleviate the need for businesses to own and store large bins within their own premises and will benefit the amenity of the developing laneways precinct as a destination for locals and visitors.

Are these fees on top of existing fees for rubbish removal or will they replace existing fees?

The trial is optional and is an alternative for businesses to replace their existing waste and recycling collection services. With a flat rate being proposed, some businesses may pay considerably less than their current waste and recycling charges, while others may pay more.
Businesses were asked what they currently pay for their waste and recycling collection services per month.
The results varied significantly, which reflects the diversity of businesses types and the different demand for waste and recycling that is generated.
Nine per cent paid more than $300 per month; 27 per cent paid between $100 and $300; and 42 per cent paid less than $100.
