Nominations now open for Geelong CBD Engagement Task Force

Wednesday, 1 July 2020

Community members who own or operate a business or own a commercial property in the 3220 postcode have the opportunity to nominate for a new Geelong CBD Engagement Task Force.

The task force will offer feedback and suggestions to council about:

  • public transport in Central Geelong
  • parking in Central Geelong
  • the Central Geelong Marketing Committee
  • the Central Geelong Marketing levy and
  • commercial rates.

The COVID-19 crisis continues to challenge the community and economy. A thriving Central Geelong business district will positively contribute to the whole region’s transition through the pandemic and into recovery.

The task force is open to business owners/operators and commercial property owners from the 3220 postcode, who are not members of the Central Geelong Marketing Committee. Nominations must be received by 9 July 2020.

The creation of this task force follows a successful Notice of Motion from Councillor Eddy Kontelj at last night’s council meeting. A report with feedback from the task force will be presented to council in September 2020.

Councillor Stephanie Asher - Mayor

We’re calling on all business owners/operators and owners of commercial property from the 3220 postcode to put their hands up for this task force. We have so many experienced business people in Central Geelong who have a lot of valuable industry knowledge and experience to contribute.

Council will actively consider all feedback from the task force while making future decisions.

Councillor Eddy Kontelj

As we navigate our way through the current and future changes of COVID-19, I encourage eligible and experienced business owners/operators and commercial property owners to nominate, who have ‘skin in the game’ and a desire to see Central Geelong continue to move forward. Council invites business people to provide us their entrepreneurial views, suggestions and advice regarding the CBD, particularly in the areas of public transport, CBD parking, the Central Geelong Marketing Committee, the Central Geelong Marketing levy and commercial rates.

The task force’s feedback will provide a valuable perspective as council leads the community and CBD into a post COVID-19 future.
