A free parking trial has been introduced in Central Geelong, as the ticketless parking system takes effect.
The trial, which began on 1 December, provides motorists with a free 30-minute period in City-managed two-hour parking zones on weekdays.
It aims to stimulate further interest in the CBD and encourage a higher number of short-term visitors. This in turn will deliver a range of economic and social benefits, while assisting with the turnover of parking spaces.
The trial is among a range of initiatives aimed at creating an easier and more efficient car parking system in central Geelong.
We are utilising new smart parking innovations, such as pay-by-phone application and a pay-by-plate method.
Tickets no longer need to be displayed in vehicles, with motorists required to enter their vehicle licence plate to complete their parking transaction.
A new app, by EasyPark, allows visitors to conduct up-to-the-minute remote transactions, limiting the paid period to the duration of their stay.
Motorists will also be able to transfer parking fee credit to another parking bay within the same central Geelong zone.
Usage fees for the EasyPark app apply.
The existing free EziCom app is still available for use, while motorists can continue to pay via coins or card.
