Portarlington North East Group - Road construction update 6 September 2017

Wednesday, 6 September 2017 9:31 AM

Road works within the Portarlington North East Group of Roads have continued over the winter months and with the start of spring we are looking forward to the drier and warmer weather which will allow sealing to recommence.

Drainage works

The contractor has started swale drain excavations and driveway culvert installations on Drysdale Street – starting from Mercer Street.

Drainage works are expected to continue for around three weeks in Drysdale Street.

Mercer Street remains closed at Stevens Street for at least the next week, whilst new drainage pipes and pits are installed.

Road works

Class 2 rock layers are continuing to be installed in between the wet weather.

Some delays have been incurred in sections of Simson and Fenwick Streets where the class 3 rock has remained too wet to allow the class 2 rock to be installed.

Looking forward

The contractor is planning to start profiling the last stage of the works from next Monday. Work will start from the Gellibrand Street end on Drysdale Street.  Class 2 rock layers will continue to be placed in the stages south of Newcombe Street to ready them for sealing.

Regular updates will continue as we progress to the warmer weather and the road sealing begins.
