The City of Greater Geelong formed a partnership with GeelongPort, GrainCorp, the Committee for Geelong, Incitec Pivot and Midway to develop the Geelong Port and Land Freight Infrastructure Plan.
The plan outlines a vision to develop the Port of Geelong to become the premier bulk and break bulk port in South East Australia by 2050. This will have positive benefits through economic growth and new job creation.
The plan outlines the investment in infrastructure required in the future to ensure the continued growth of the port; attracting new trades and expanding the businesses of existing users.
Investment in road, rail and marine infrastructure will be required to deliver the plan.
The City will work with the Port manager and port users to advocate for upgrades to improve access in and around the port, key projects include:
- Channel and berth improvements, and additional berths
- Road connections to the Geelong Ring Road and local access improvements
- Rail connection to Lascelles Wharf and improvements to other lines in the port area
The recommendations of the plan were endorsed in principle by Council in August 2013.
