Official Naming of Public Reserve at 97 Christies Road, Leopold

The City has received a submission from the Friends of the Bellarine Rail Trail proposing that the reserve at 97 Christies Road, Leopold be officially named the Fred Cook Reserve to honour one of their longest serving and most active members, Mr Fred Cook.

Mr Cook joined the Friends of the Bellarine Rail Trail at the groups establishment in 2002 and was a respected, committed and tireless working member until his death in 2017. Mr Cook was instrumental in the revegetation, and improvement of community facilities, along the Bellarine Rail Trail Reserve. Mr Cook’s work lead to the establishment of over 80,000 plants, the installation of numerous community facilities, and the coordination of over 20,000 hours of volunteer work by members of the Friends of Bellarine Rail Trail.

The City believes that Mr Cook has made a significant contribution to improving our regions natural environment and improving the Bellarine Rail Trail for the ongoing benefit of our community.
The City welcomes public comment regarding this proposal.
