Bins in Central Geelong Laneways – Discussion Paper

This engagement is open

Date: Friday, 1 March 2019 to Monday, 1 April 2019

Central Geelong’s iconic laneways were originally built for back-of-house services, including rubbish collection, stormwater channelling and night-cart collections. Today, these same laneways are in high demand as front-of-house areas for new bars, restaurants and apartment buildings. This change, while contributing to a more vibrant and activated Central Geelong, creates challenges, including problems associated with the permanent storage of bins in public areas.

A discussion paper highlighting options to manage waste, recycling and bin storage in Central Geelong’s iconic laneways precinct has been released by Council.  The discussion paper is intended to review options with the laneways businesses, residents and other stakeholders to establish a way forward with this issue, and to empower all of these stakeholders to help inform the preferred option, and to assist Council in the decision making.

The discussion paper and various forms of engagement with the community has been made available on this issue, including a public survey, an opportunity for submissions, and one-on-one discussions with all of the businesses in the precinct.

We recommend you read the discussion paper, before completing the survey or lodging a submission.
