  • what businesses or services are missing in this area
  • what will deliver value for the people of Geelong, now and into the future.

You can have your say by taking part in our online forum, by visiting one of our Customer Service Centres or by emailing the Civic Precinct team at [email protected].

Key findings

Between March and June, the City ran an open engagement calling for big ideas to help shape the future of our new Civic Precinct and central administrative office at 137 Mercer Street. Through an interactive online map, site walking tours and workshops with key stakeholders, we received hundreds of ideas, suggestions and aspirations for the precinct and its surrounding area.

Among the suggestions were calls for an active public space, meaningful representation of our local Aboriginal culture and heritage, strong connections to City Hall, Johnstone Park and the Railway Station, and a focus on sustainability in design and access for people of all abilities.

We heard that our community wants a precinct that is a place of welcome to the city, with a design that celebrates and validates our UNESCO City of Design designation and embraces our Clever and Creative 30-year vision.

The results from this engagement will help the City pick a preferred partner to deliver the precinct in August and will inform the design of our preferred partner as they engage further with our community.

Further opportunities to have your say on the concept design will be promoted September 2019 onwards, once the developer team has been appointed.
