Regional Fast Rail

Date: Sunday, 9 June 2019 to Wednesday, 31 July 2019

The City is fully committed to seeing fast rail introduced to regional Victoria.

Through the New Spirit of Progress Committee, we are leading a coalition of regional cities determined to accelerate action on the transformative project and make it a reality.

The committee, which includes representatives from Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton, Colac Otway and Latrobe, is united behind a clear vision for regional fast rail.

To advance our advocacy efforts, we commissioned a report that builds on the Victorian Government’s plan for 200 km/h fast rail to both Geelong and Ballarat.

The new Stronger, Together report proposes a fully-electrified 200 km/h commuter rail network linking Melbourne to Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton and Latrobe.

The network would also connect to the Tullamarine and Avalon airports, and extend to towns such as Winchelsea and Colac.

The report calls for the regional rail program to be planned and built in parallel with the Melbourne Airport Rail Link tunnel, Sunshine station and other suburban track duplications.

This could see the Geelong and Ballarat lines operating within 5-7 years.

The full Stronger, Together report can be viewed below.

We want feedback from all Victorians about the merits of the regional fast rail network and to understand their views on the different elements of the project.

The City invites your submissions.
